Small Intestine.
~Can be as long as 18-20 feet long.
~Recieves secretions from the pancreas and liver as well as completes the digestion of nutrients in chyme.
~Absorbs the products of digestions and transports the remaining residues to the large intestine.
~Consists of three parts. (Duodenum, Jejunum, & Ileum).

Jejunum.
~The bulk of the small intestine. Where nutrients from food are absorbed into the blood stream to be delivered to the rest of the body.
Ileum.
~Not a distinct separation from the jejunum to ileum, but the diameter of the jejunum is thicker and usually more vascular than the ileum.
~The ileum has more lymph nodes and more bacteria.

Structure of the Small Intestine Wall.
~Throughout the small intestine, the walls are lined with tiny projections called villi.
~On the surface of each villi are microvilli which are even smaller projections whivch enhance absorption.
~Nutrients are absorbed in the villi and transported into the blood stream via capillaries and then to the rest of the body.
